About this event

Did you know…? Many dates on food labels are not “expiration dates” but “freshness dates.” They represent the timeframe in which the manufacturer feels the product will taste best. At River Bend Foodbank, we call that the “donate date,” and this MLK Day we’re challenging you to help us reduce food waste AND feed people in need.

Participate in the “Donate Date” Challenge on MLK Day of Service by:
1. Take out food in your pantry you know you won’t eat or that has passed the “donate date”
2. Snap a photo of you and your donation
3. Post the photo to Facebook or Instagram, tag @riverbendfoodbank and tell everyone you’re participating
4. Tag your friends/family to challenge them to join you!
5. Use the hashtag #DonateDateChallenge
6. Take your donation to one of the participating drop-off sites anytime during the week of Jan. 18 (see our FB page for details)
7. Celebrate giving back to your community while reducing food waste!

(Note: infant formula and baby food DO have expiration dates, and you should never consume food from packaging that is bulging, rusted, or looks/smells spoiled)
