Ways to help

Summer Docents

Would you like to dress up in Victorian outfits and show people around our beautiful historical buildings? We have opportunities for building docents throughout the Summer on Sunday afternoons and for some other special events. Training will be provided and no previous experience is necessary.

Stone Gang

Looking to use your handyman or gardening skills, or wanting to expand them? The Stone Gang is a fun group that meets on Tuesday mornings to do routine maintenance and small projects around the Village. While the group is mainly retired men, all are welcome. There is also a dedicated team of gardeners from various gardening clubs that also meet on Tuesday mornings and are welcoming to new volunteers.

Events

We hold many special events at Mill Race Village throughout the year. Like everything else we do at the Village, we rely on volunteers to make things happen. We would love for you to join us and become part of the team. Pick an event you'd like to help with, or just tell us you'd like to be involved, and we'll find you something to do!

Parades

Northville is the City of Parades. There seems to be one almost every week, and the Northville Historical Society participates in almost all of them. If you enjoy marching in parades and hearing the cheer of the waiting crowds, we'd love to have you with us! If you have a Victorian outfit you can wear it; if you don't, we will find you one! No training necessary. Just walk, smile, wave and have fun.

How you help Volunteers improve the experience of learning about Northville and Mill Village History.
About us History is preserved at Mill Race Historical Village, a gem of the Northville community. Created in 1972 by the Northville Historical Society, Mill Race Village serves as a focal point for the Northville community. A living museum, the Village was built on land donated to the City of Northville by the Ford Motor Company. Once the site of a grist mill, the Village is home to a church, gazebo, school, rustic wooden bridge, blacksmith shop, general store, interurban train station and several homes reminiscent of an era gone by.
