Ways to help

Virtual Math Tutor

As a STEMx Tutor you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. You choose the 1:1 or 2:1 student to tutor ratio. Join EnCorps’ STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. As a volunteer math tutor, you prepare students for the rigor of high school mathematics and establish the foundational knowledge needed to pursue a college education that prepares students for a career in an increasingly technical world. We ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of one semester with the option to renew. Many of our tutors have been in the program for three years. EnCorps provides its volunteer tutors with training and support. Volunteer Eligibility: Have a bachelor’s degree (does not have to be in a STEM field) and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience; have an advanced degree in a STEM field; be a junior or senior in a college-accredited STEM bachelor’s program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher; hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM work experience; or be a current or former credentialed math teacher.

How you help EnCorps Fellows, who become EnCorps STEM Teachers in high needs schools, are connecting students to real-world math and science career and economic opportunities, preparing the STEM workforce pipeline, and transforming public education statewide.
About us To address the STEM teacher shortage, EnCorps has been working earnestly since 2007 to recruit the best and brightest science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals to teaching, providing meaningful opportunities to impact disadvantaged students. We believe all students deserve access to a great STEM teacher, a great STEM education and all the opportunities that those can provide for them. We’re here to address the conditions limiting high poverty and under-resourced student opportunities.
