Volunteering on a Budget!

Fundraise $100-$120 to cook and serve breakfast to our shelter residents. Make PB&J sandwiches for our outreach teams and shelter residents. Purchase 5 loaves of bread and a peanut butter and jelly jar and create bagged sandwiches for our clients. (Estimated cost: $30.00 for 50 sandwiches, including Ziploc baggies.)

If you pay strong attention to detail and love finding the dust bunny behind the door, come help us deep clean the kitchen, dining hall, and children’s area. With your help, we can create a warm and welcoming space for clients to enjoy and thrive. Guest Chef

The Guest Chefs will plan the menu, purchase and prepare the ingredients, then cook and serve the meal to our shelter residents. Volunteers in our Guest Chef Program commit to preparing meals for approximately 45 shelter residents on a daily basis. Volunteers typically create a Guest Chef team comprised of fellow members of a congregation, service organization, co-workers, family members, friends, etc. Guest Chefs may volunteer for multiple meals per month or one meal occasionally.

How you help Ascencia is supported by over 900 volunteers every year. Volunteers make our work possible by providing breakfast and dinner for our shelter, tutoring our youth, and providing administrative support among many other things. We thank our volunteers for their dedication and service to Ascencia!
About us Ascencia provides a range of services and housing to move homeless families and individuals in Glendale, Burbank, West Hollywood and the surrounding communities of Los Angeles off the streets and into their own home. These programs include street outreach, 45 beds of year-round emergency housing for families and single adults, comprehensive case management services, on-site mental health care, including trauma therapy and psychiatry and a financial literacy program. In 2019, we added a Housing Location Navigator responsible for developing relationships with property owners and landlords and identifying housing units in advance of need. Our programs employ a “whatever it takes” approach to move families and individuals from homelessness to stability in permanent housing.
